We would like to warmly welcome you to the very first edition of LightHouse Newsletter (First Baptist Church Newton Youth) – a monthly e-newsletter from your Youth staff to inform, update, and keep in touch.
It was George Bernard Shaw who once quipped, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Ask anyone and they will tell you how true this is. Healthy communication is a prerequisite to healthy relationships, and no less for the church family.
We plan to make LightsHouse a pithy and relevant read with the obvious goal to simply communicate. You can expect each edition to contain:
We trust you’ll find LightHouse Newsltter another great resource that will allow you to stay in touch with your church family. As your youth staff we look forward to continuing to reach out to you, including through this new way, as we seek to press together for the work at hand and in preparation for the soon return of Jesus.
So please, read on.

FEED THE DOG
7 Spiritual Disciplines to Help You Grow in Your Faith
A man had two dogs. The one he fed grew the biggest.
There's an old parable about a man who had two dogs that were constantly at war with each other. One of the dogs was good, representing virtues like loyalty and kindness. The other dog was bad, representing vices such as hatred and lust. Which dog won in the end? That's easy: the one he fed.
In the same way, we have two fundamental natures battling for our attention on a daily basis—a sinful flesh and a righteous spirit. Through Christ, we have the ability to choose which nature we will "feed," leading us either further away from or closer to His likeness.
Feed the Dog is a video-driven Bible study for middle and high school students (grades 7-12). Through the artistry of illusion and his unique gift of evangelism, Brock Gill guides students to realize the importance of nourishing the spirit through the daily practice of spiritual disciplines. Over the course of eight sessions, students will learn that spiritual disciplines are something we develop over time. With practice and perseverance, students will be able to discern the truth and focus on what's important. They will “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps. 34:8), growing in their relationship with Christ and pointing others to Him.
It starts this week February 4, 2018, at Chris' house. 612 Horger St.,
March 10 - March 11 12pm - 1am LOCATION: Bossier City, LA at CenturyLink Center
Be at the church to leave by noon!
Since its formation by NewSong in 1995, The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular has featured many of the top names in Christian music, including TobyMac, Skillet, Hillsong UNITED, Lecrae, Lauren Daigle, Newsboys and more! The tour has also been a launching pad for great artists such as for KING & COUNTRY, Francesca Battistelli, and Sidewalk Prophets.
It has often outpaced any other tour's attendance worldwide during the first quarter of the year (according to Pollstar).
Winter Jam is an incredible evening of live concerts by the top artists in Christian music, plus worship and ministry, to encourage believers and share the good news with those who have yet to trust Christ.
When NewSong began Winter Jam, it was based on the idea of removing cost barriers, so more people could attend, be encouraged by the music, and hear the gospel. Years later, those are still the foundations of Winter Jam.
When you attend a Winter Jam event, you can count on ministry being the main focus. From a single concert in Greenville to the largest annual tour in the world, God has continued to bless Winter Jam, so we are excited to continue to be a part of what He is doing and look forward to what He is going to do in the future!
This has been my first Disciple Now that I have had the privilege of leading while being here. We had a great time having over 30 students be involved. I would like to thank each and every one of you for trusting us with your student during this past weekend.
During this past weekend we have turned the concept of DNow on its head. As many of you know we had the large group sessions at Pastor Josh's house, and had a very limited band presence, to take as many of the distractions away from them so that they could focus on what God had for them to learn.
